If you came to Norway to look for work, you can stay here for six months. You must report to the police no later than three months after your arrival in Norway. If you have not got a job within six months, you must leave Norway.

If you are a Swedish, Danish, Icelandic or Finnish citizen, all you need to do to live in Norway, is to report a move to the National Registry.

You will be granted a residence permit as a refugee – normally for five years. Your residence permit can be renewed by application.

If you are a statless person and are born in Norway, you can apply for Norwegian citizenship.

You can apply for protection (asylum) if you are persecuted or if you fear persecution or inhumane treatment in your home country.

You must normally have received a job offer in Norway before you can apply for a residence permit for work purposes. If you are a skilled worker, you may in some exceptional cases get a residence permit to stay in Norway while you look for work.

If you have a permanent residence permit, or a temporary residence permit that forms the basis for a permanent residence permit, you cannot be granted protection (asylum) in Norway.

If you are not in Norway, you cannot apply for protection (asylum). The UNHCR decides who they propose as resettlement refugees to Norway.
